Welcome to the Mothers’ Living Stories Project™ web site
Hundreds of thousands of mothers raise children while coping with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Many caring people want to help but don’t know how.
For the past decade, Mothers’ Living Stories (MLS), a Bay Area-based nonprofit project, has been listening to mothers and developing services and resources to support them.
Primarily, the Project brings ill mothers together with trained volunteers in a process that is healing to both. Volunteer Listeners guide mothers in reviewing their lives and recording their stories. These living legacies foster communication within the family and help mothers and their children hold each other in life and after death.
This site exists to share some of what we’ve learned over the years. Whether you’re a parent living with illness, or a professional, family member, or a friend who cares about a parent who is ill, we hope that you will find valuable resources, ideas, and information in these pages.
